The authors of the House of the Dragon series, which tells about events that took place long before the plot of Game of Thrones, spoke about the key characters and at the same time presented a portion of new shots and characteristic portraits.

The showrunners said they wanted to show the rise of the Targaryens and the beginning of their fall in House of the Dragon. One of the symbols of the power of the dynasty will be the Iron Throne – it will be in the series more than in the Game of Thrones.

“House of the Dragon” will tell about the events that took place several centuries before the “Game of Thrones”. In the center of the plot is the war between the Targaryens for power in Westeros. Reynira Targaryen, daughter of King Viserys I, and wife of the ruler, Alycent Hightower, fought for the Iron Throne.

So, Rhaenyra Targaryen is a girl who is practically obsessed with masculinity and male power. She was to become her father’s heir and the first female ruler of Westeros – she had been preparing for this since childhood. Because of this, Reynira was rather lonely: she had a close relationship with her father, Uncle Damon and Alicent Hightower, who was her best friend.

Also among the characters will be Alicent Hightower, who spent her whole life in King’s Landing, since her father Otto was the King’s Hand. She became close friends with Princess Rhaenyra, but married Viserys I and bore him a son. And this same Viserys I is described as a good man, but a bad king. He is tormented by the thought of how he will go down in history.

Damon (no, not Salvatore) Targaryen, brother of Viserys – his complete opposite. He is a skilled warrior who fights in tournaments and battles and rides Caraxes, the red dragon.

Corlis is a battle-hardened warrior and sailor whose fleet is second to none. Because of this, he has great power. He is also a caring husband and father who still remembers the offense inflicted on his wife: she claimed the throne, but her father made Viserys heir.

Rhaenys is an experienced dragonrider and part mentor, part rival of Princess Rhaenyra. Ryan Condal, one of the showrunners of the series, explained why Corlis Velaryon, a member of the Valyrian dynasty, whose representatives in the books have white skin color, they decided to make black. According to Kondal, he and his co-creator Miguel Sapochnik didn’t want to make “another series with a bunch of whites on the screen again”.
