Joker: If you hit pause at the right time, you’ll discover a secret countdown hidden in the movie

While Joker: Folie à deux hits theaters on October 2nd, TF1 is tonight airing the first installment, directed by Todd Phillips in 2019 and starring the baffling Joaquin Phoenix.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 stars by AlloCiné internet users, winning an Oscar for its lead actor, the film grossed over a billion dollars worldwide (for a low budget) and wowed many audiences.

Countdown in the movie

However, even if you’ve seen him a few times, the Joker may not have revealed all of his secrets to you yet. Indeed, provided you give it a very specific point of view and pay attention to certain details scattered everywhere, you will be able to notice that there is a strange countdown hidden in the film.

As we already mentioned five years ago in one of our Big Fan Theory at the instigation of Romain M. (a fan of the film and AlloCiné), the social chaos caused by the Joker at the end, but also the character’s own internal chaos and its origin. Insanity seems to have been announced throughout the film thanks to a mysterious countdown.

From 10 to 0!

If you hit pause at the right moment in the feature film, you can really judge for yourself:

  • At 32 minutes and 17 seconds, Arthur Flack was attacked in the subway car number 10.
  • In 33 minutes, he commits his first crime, shooting the employees who insulted him at the 9th Avenue station.
  • In 36 minutes, the future Joker kisses a neighbor on his doorstep. He lives in number 8B.
  • At 1 hour and 13 minutes, Arthur Fleck escaped from Arkham and ran into Corridor 7.
  • In 1 hour and 32 minutes, he will enter the subway on the 6th platform.
  • After a few seconds, the inspectors of the 5th train get off the passenger.

  • At 1 hour 35 minutes, The Joker talks to Murray Franklin before the show. They are in box 404 getting ready to go on stage 4B.
  • At 1 hour and 42 minutes, the Joker confesses to his murder, filmed by the 3rd camera.
  • At 1 hour and 46 minutes, all channels are commenting on Joker’s actions and in particular on the WGC news… 2.
  • At 1 hour and 47 minutes, the police car that will take the Joker away is parked in the ace hole in front of the poster. An ace, like an ace of cards, ie 1.
  • Finally, at 1 hour and 52 minutes, cheered on by the demonstrators, the Joker himself hides the poster in the ace hole. The countdown is over. Like a ticking time bomb, the Joker’s madness could explode now.

Do you think this countdown was deliberately arranged by the director? Or is it an extraordinary coincidence?
