Washington Olivetto dies: ‘My best friend,’ laments Lulu Santos; see repercussions


The advertising executive died this Sunday, aged 13, at the age of 73

Washington Olivettoone of the most important names in Brazilian advertising, died this Sunday, 13 years old, at the age of 73. Several personalities have posted tributes on social media, such as Lulu Santoswho posted a photo next to the publicist and the caption “My best friend [emoji de coração]”.



“I met Washington Olivetto more than 40 years ago and over time we became friends, very good friends and practically family. I can only say that I will miss him immensely, although I do not miss the memories and lessons learned,” he wrote, in a another post. Check it out in full below.

Personalities mourn the death of Washington Olivetto

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad also wrote about Washington Olivetto’s death. According to the minister, Olivetto “brought Brazilianness to the world with his advertisements. His creativity, his good humor and his appreciation for democracy leave their mark on our popular culture”.

The television director José Bonifácio Brasil de Oliveira, known as Boninho, lamented Olivetto’s death online. “Who doesn’t remember the Cofap puppy, the Bombril boy, the first bra and the brilliant “Hitler for Folha”. He never stopped creating, he always received some idea from him, a beautiful text, a funny affection. He will be missed in the my life”, wrote Boninho.

The official profile of Corinthians also mourned Olivetto’s death in its profile on “Olivetto was vice president of Marketing of the Club and in addition to being one of the founders of the Corinthians Democracy movement. Author of the books ‘Corinthians x Others’ and ‘Corinthians – É Preto no Branco'”.

The singer Wilson Simoninha it was another who paid tribute to him: “he went far beyond revolutionizing advertising, he, with his genius, made us proud of Brazil and who we are, he contributed to culture and helped train other geniuses. What a privilege to be grew up in your time, worked with him and became his friend.”

Adriana Galisteuhost of Record, used her Instagram stories to post a black and white photo of the advertiser accompanied by the hashtag #RipWashingtonOlivetto.

Now the actor Lucio Mauro Filho wrote: “Washington Olivetto, genius of world advertising, pride of Brazil! Rest in peace, maestro!”
