If you only had to keep 10, what would be the animated films you recommend discovering as a priority in your audience’s lifetime? The question may seem terribly difficult, even completely inexplicable, and any answer will surely condemn us to unforgivable mistakes.
In the editorial team of AlloCiné, we still decided – a few years ago – to offer you our own list of 10 must-haves that are absolutely memorable in the field of animation. After many long and lively discussions, we arrived at an eclectic selection that spanned many eras, many nationalities and many studios.
The third adventure of Woody and Buzz
In addition to the unforgettable Up There (directed by Pete Docter in 2009), the prestigious house of Pixar earned the second place on our list. Indeed, even if we had a lot of trouble putting down other gems like Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, or Coco, it seemed impossible to ignore Toy Story 3’s specialness.
Directed in 2010 by Lee Unkrich, this new sequel tells how Woody, Buzz and their plastic co-workers experience Andy going to university. Relegated to the closet for many years, they suddenly found new life in the hands of the children of Sunnyside, a nursery school with rather restless residents.
One of the most exciting conclusions of cinema
The transition from the first two Toy Story opuses and their undeniable qualities was definitely a challenge for the artists from the studio to the small desk lamp. But as is often the case with Pixar, a miracle happened…

Rewarded again with irresistible humor after a 10-year absence, our beloved toys first offered us an absolutely breathtaking and completely unexpected final scene, which is still considered one of the most moving scenes (maybe the scene) in the history of the company.
Like Beauty and the Beast, Up There (and Coco a few years later), Toy Story 3 had the privilege of being one of the very rare animated films to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
