International success
Amazon did not provide figures, but indicated that the series with Matilda De Angeli is number one in Italy, the United States and the United Kingdom, and that it entered the top 5 in almost 150 countries, including Canada, Australia, Germany, Spain, France, Brazil, Mexico and India, raising the bar for Italian-language content for Prime Video’s international audience.
The success of the Italian series has drawn more viewers to the American version of Citadel, according to Amazon, from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy. Original Italian series that have done well for the broadcaster in the past include Everybody Loves Diamonds and The Dirty Guy.
What is Citadel: Diana again?
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, with support from ITV Studios and produced by the Russo Brothers’ company AGBO, Citadel: Diana is set in 2030 Milan. It follows Diana Cavalieri (Matilda De Angelis), a secret agent working for the global agency of the same name. A spy when in fact he is a mole of the powerful enemy syndicate Manticore.
Diana is the latest addition to the franchise, whose American parent series starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden launched last year. A second season is also in the works, while the Indian version, Citadel: Honey Bunny, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, will release on November 7.
