Are you looking forward to seeing Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau in action again?
‘The Marvels’ is one of the upcoming Marvel movies on the billboard and one of the most anticipated films of 2023. Previously known as ‘Captain Marvel 2’, the film was renamed to integrate its three great protagonists: Carol Danvers (played by Brie Larson), Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris, seen in ‘Scarlet Witch and Vision’).
‘Captain Marvel’ was one of Marvel’s strongest bets in 2019, and the public rewarded the risk: more than 1,000 million at the box office have made it one of the highest grossing movies of the year. In addition, he gave us a Brie Larson who is doing like a glove the character of Carol Danvers. After seeing her participate in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, her character returns better accompanied than ever in this sequel directed by Nia DaCosta. This is everything we know about ‘The Marvels’, from its release date to its synopsis, and also how it will affect the ending and post-credits scene of ‘Ms. Marvel’, the Disney+ series.
‘The Marvels’: release date
Its release date has been moving due to the pandemic and other delays, but we already know the final release date: on July 28, 2023.
‘The Marvels’: synopsis
For now we do not know what the possible plot of ‘The Marvels’ could be, but we do know that it will take place today. Let’s remember that the first installment took place in the 90s and that the next time we saw the character, it was in ‘Avengers: Endgame‘which takes place in 2019. But being half Skrull-half Kree and also having powers from the Tesseract, his aging is different from that of the rest of the humans.
In the comics, Danvers is Kamala Khan’s ultimate role model, and it looks like the mentor/mentee relationship between the two will be explored further. The film will also tie into Rambeau de Parris, who was last seen in ‘WandaVision’. Although it’s not yet clear, fans could witness a team-up involving Rambeau and Nick Fury, as hinted at in the ‘Scarlet Witch and the Vision’ post-credits scene, where a Skrull tells Rambeau that an old friend of Rambeau’s mother she wants to meet her.
The expansion into deep space and alternate realities along with Skrulls scattered throughout the MCU, and even that brief appearance in ‘Scarlet Witch and Vision’, is a clear sign that things are literally about to go out of this world. ‘The Marvels’ seems to be a big step in that cosmic direction.
Another of the most recurrent rumors is that the villain of the film will be Veranke, the queen of the Skrull empire in the Marvel Universe. If confirmed, it would lay the groundwork for the ‘Secret Invasion’ saga, when it is discovered that the Skrulls, being shapeshifterhave been invading planet Earth without anyone knowing.
‘The Marvels’: cast
Brie Larson would reprise the role of Carol Danvers and Teyonah Parris has already been confirmed as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel. Also, it is quite plausible that we see Lashana Lynch in the shoes of Maria Rambeau.
It is not known if Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn or Jude Law to resume the roles of the first installment of ‘Captain Marvel’.
‘The Marvels’: director
The first installment was directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who are now immersed in their series ‘Mrs. America’ with Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne and Elizabeth Banks among others, so they will not return in this second part, so Marvel has started an active search for female directors that has finally led to Nia DaCosta.
On this occasion, the script will be signed by Gene Colan and Roy Thomas.
‘The Marvels’: comic
Not much is known yet about what awaits us in ‘Captain Marvel 2’, but it could well borrow stories from these comics:
