In “Three Kilometers to the End of the World” by Emmanuel Parvo, the victim of a homophobic attack is guilty. Guilty of kissing a boy on the street after dark. Very quickly, Adi, 17, becomes a village outcast when she decides to file a complaint against her attackers.
This powerful film, which won the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, takes a stark look at the violence against homosexuals in rural Romania. In an interview with AlloCiné, the director said that he was inspired by a completely different news story in Romania, about a woman who was raped by seven men in a village. There, too, the victim saw that society was turned against him.
