From Sugarland Express in 1974 to The Fabelmans, Steven Spielberg collaborated with composer John Williams, who knew how to sublimate his cinema and give it an extra dimension.
You may forget the movie, but never its music
After 30 films together, the Schindler’s List director was more than justified in talking about his tribute to Williams at the premiere of John Williams’ film score. The Hollywood Reporter :
“That’s the miracle of film music, and that’s the enduring miracle of John Williams: what he brought to all our movies, how he elevated them and introduced them to all of us.”Steven Spielberg said. “Often you can walk out of a movie that John Williams wrote the music for and a week later you might forget the movie, but never the music.”
“I love John, he’s more than a family friend, more than a family member; he’s the best creative partner I’ve ever had. In the 52 years we’ve been working together, John and I have been signing music. My movies, he’s the best It’s the best partner I’ve ever had in the creative arts.”
It’s a great compliment to know that Steven Spielberg is considered one of the greatest directors of cinema, with both personal and commercial films that mostly met with a public that most often rushed to the theaters for each new film of the filmmaker. Hearing the director of Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and ET, the extra-terrestrial, that he’s never had the creative support of John Williams is no small thing.
John Williams holds the record for 54 Academy Award nominations, having won for Schindler’s List, ET, The Extra-Terrestrial, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Jaws and Fiddler on the Roof.
