Warning, spoilers. The following paragraphs illustrate plot elements from the movie Don’t Move.
Available on Netflix, Don’t Move is one of the latest films produced by Sam Raimi, one of the masters of horror, known for the Evil Dead franchise, The Grudge, 30 Days of Night, All Way to Hell, but also the Spider-Man trilogy.
The filmmaker backed a feature film he’s already worked with from directors Adam Schindler and Brian Neto (The Intruders), which is now on Netflix.
What is Don’t Move on Netflix?
The film follows Iris (Kelsey Asbill), a young woman still grieving the death of her son after an accident. One morning he decides to end his life by throwing himself off a forest cliff.
A young woman is stopped by a seemingly charming man who calls himself Richard (Finn Wittrock). He explains that he also lost someone close to him, Chloe, his high school sweetheart, in a car accident and that he’s still trying to get over it.
After a long discussion about death, life and mourning, the two return to the edge of the forest to find their cars and say their goodbyes. But “Richard” reveals his true colors as a serial killer and injects him with a paralyzing agent that takes effect after about twenty minutes.
How long does Iris have to try to escape this individual’s clutches before her body completely shuts down and she is unable to speak or move. Then the real fight for survival begins.
How do we know the end of “Don’t Move”?
After a brutal twenty-minute race through the woods and a tumultuous river crossing, Iris can no longer fight, and the product Richard injects completely paralyzes her.
She luckily lands in the property of William, an old widower who seems to understand that she is in a delicate situation and who notices the signals when Richard knocks on his door under false pretenses to retrieve the iris hidden in the house. this time.

Unfortunately, Richard kills William, who had time to call the police, and sets his house on fire before Iris recovers, who has no choice but to come forward to avoid being burned alive.
Richard wants to take Iris to his chalet, where he seems to be taking all his victims for his “serial killer” weekend. Because Richard is leading a double life and we learn that he is married and has a daughter who will join him in his cabin in the woods.
The killer has no choice but to take a weekend kill with Iris and kill her faster than planned if he doesn’t want to arouse the family’s suspicions. But Richard makes a lot of mistakes that will help Iris.
The latter manages to make the woman she meets at the gas station realize that she is in danger, and the latter alerts the police. The agent joins Iris and Richard, who are arrested on the side of the road. But he doesn’t have time to help Iris when Richard kills her.

For Richard, we need to end this now. The killer made too many mistakes, and above all, he gave too much time to Iris, who begins to regain control of her body and the ability to speak again (the paralyzing agent only works for an hour).
Did Richard die at the end of Don’t Move?
Cue the lake and the boat Richard ties and places Iris in to kill her without bothering her. But Iris cleverly manages to stab him, then shoot him with her own gun and finally be free.
Despite his injuries, Richard managed to reach the shore. But the movie suggests that he’s in too bad shape to survive, and Iris leaves him to his own fate, which is certain death, without so much as a “thank you” for abandoning him.
This last word refers to Richard’s speech explaining to Iris why he started killing. The death of his girlfriend Chloe revealed his hidden darkness and sociopathic tendencies.
He felt like an all-powerful god who could take the life of any woman, because he himself admitted that he had never attacked men before William.
One of the directors, Adam Schindler, explained Netflix TudumThat this experience is “A Kind of Failed Therapy” For both characters, because even the killer makes himself vulnerable to his victim. But we shouldn’t take everything Richard says literally: “Whether he is telling the truth or not, there are glimmers of truth in what he says.”.

Richard thanked Chloe as he died for this sentiment. And since then, he has never stopped wanting to find her when he kills a woman and sees the light in her eyes go out. He wants to have power over women, their emotions and their lives.
And Iris will be able to regain this power and manipulate it to regain the taste of life and survive. So she tells him “thank you” and changes the dynamic. “I believe in this phrase in the best sense: Thank you for inspiring me to live again”explained Sam Raimi.
“Kelsey Asbill has a heart in the film and really manages to portray a desperate person who finds hope. I know this because I am very excited about the ending of the film. She has soul and knows how to bring it to the public.“.
For co-director Adam Schindler, this is one of his favorite moments in the film: “The realization that we see on Richard’s face when he says thank you. He can’t believe this is happening to him.”. It’s Richard’s turn to be immobilized and Iris’s turn to seize power and control his life.
