The director’s third film will participate in the Official Section of the next edition of the San Sebastian Festival.

From FOTOGRAMAS, we present the exclusive teaser-poster of the film ‘The Rite of Spring’, the third film by director Fernando Franco and which will be part of the Official Section of the 2022 San Sebastian Festival. Shot between the past months of February and March between Granada and Madrid, it stars Valeria Sorolla, who is making her debut in her first feature film, Telmo Irureta (‘Steal you a night’, 2018, ‘Nomofobikak’ 2017) and Emma Suarez.

‘The Rite of Spring’ introduces us to Laura (Sorolla), who has just arrived in Madrid to settle in a residence hall and study Chemistry. The girl is lonely and almost penniless, she tries to adjust to her college life while she deals with her insecurities. One night, by chance, she meets David (Irureta), a boy with cerebral palsy who lives with her mother, Isabel (Suárez). Laura initiates a relationship of mutual trust with them that helps her to overcome her complexes and face a new stage towards maturity. ‘The Rite of Spring’ is a story about that vital moment in which everything is possible and about how the most unexpected encounter can change our lives.

After directing ‘La wound’, released in 2013, or ‘Morir’, presented in 2017, the script is written by Franco himself together with Begoña Arostegui. The film’s director admits that “since ‘La wound’ my taste for a cinema based on the psychological portrait of characters who go through emotional situations of life crossroads is evidenthe. Laura comes from a conservative background that has nothing to do with what she finds in David’s house, a kind of oasis of tolerance that she is not used to at all. Her transition to her maturity will consist, fundamentally, in rethinking the notions that she had instilled in her and realizing that everything is much more ambiguous than certain Manichaean moral categorizations. She is a character who inevitably connects with that situation that we all, in one way or another, have gone through: emancipation, abandoning the nest and consolidating her own personality. But, beyond this, she raises a series of questions that continue to affect us even as adults and that, in some way, challenge us from a slippery ambiguity that, inevitably, requires a position “.

‘The Rite of Spring’ is scheduled to be released in theaters in the fall of 2022.

Franco’s film is produced by LAZONA, Kowalski Films, Ferdydurke Films and Blizzard Films. It has the participation of RTVE, Canal Sur, EiTB, Movistar Plus+ and Cosmopolitan, the collaboration of the Community of Madrid, the support of the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions and funding from the ICAA.
