The smoke and the unmistakable smell of the barbecue ‘perfumed’ the hall of the Clube Banespa, in the South Zone of Sao Paulo, on the night of this Sunday 27th, while the supporters of Ricardo Nunes (MDB) paraded around the venue with number 15 stickers attached to their clothes. Loud music. Noise. Smile on your face and a low anxiety vibe. In the end, Nunes’ victory It was already expected. It is no coincidence that the Emedebist was re-elected, obtaining 59.35% of the valid votes (3.39 million).
- Check it out Earth the results of the second round of the 2024 elections!
Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) concluded the electoral race with 40.65% of valid votes (2.32 million) in an election that beat the historical record of abstentionwith 31.54% of voters absent, i.e. 2,940,360 entitled to vote.
Before the victory was announced, how Nunes increased his margin of votes over Boulos, the public celebrated the progress of the count with relative calm. Some more active ones have bet on the choreographic steps of Gangnam Style, a 2012 hit by the South Korean singer Psy which inspired the Nunestar jingle of the emedebista campaign, with one arm raised and moving the legs as if they were riding a horse.
Those who didn’t dance sang, “Eeeeee, mayor of Nunes…St. Paul will be Nunestar.” Minutes passed until the election result was confirmed by the Higher Electoral Court (TSE), filling the room even more. Shortly after 7pm, the stage was already filled with campaign members and leaders like Gilberto Kassab (PSD), Baleia Rossi (MDB) and Tarcísio de Freitas (republicans), as well as Tomás Covas Lopes, son of former mayor Bruno Covas (1980-2021), of which Nunes was a deputy.
Nunes arrived accompanied by his wife Regina Carnovale, who was holding the pink cap with the writing ‘R 15’. The emedebista was welcomed by a crowd shouting: ‘Long live the destroyed’, referring to the origins of the mayor, who several times during the electoral campaign made a point of saying that he grew up in Jardim São Luís.
The couple did not hide their elation as they greeted voters. Nunes spoke and thanked his family for their support, especially his wife, who was also praised by the audience who rhythmically shouted her name. Regina, very present at Nunes’ electoral rallies, also accompanied her husband during the vote at the Dom Duarte Leopoldo e Silva state school, in the Socorro neighborhood, on Sunday morning.

Nunes also once again praised his great campaign godfather, Tarcísio. “You can count on me 24 hours a day,” he said. “Tarcísio, your name is the present, but your last name is the future,” Nunes said at another point.
Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was mentioned with the same intensity with which I support Nunes’ candidacy, in a discreet and timely manner. The mention occurred when Nunes thanked him for his collaboration with Coronel Melo Araújo, appointed by Bolsonaro to compose the note. “A precious indication from Bolsonaro,” he concluded.
At the end of the speech, Nunes left the stage to join the voters. There were countless photos taken with the audience, very helpfully, for about 30 minutes, until the place began to empty.
Paulista emptied and without popular celebration
Traditional stage of victories, Avenida Paulista remained empty, without any political movement. THE Earth He passed along the street after Nunes’ victory was made official and didn’t notice people with candidate stickers walking around.
The avenue is a traditional point of social demonstrations and political meetings, both of victory and defeat. For example, voters of Pablo Marçal (PRTB), who placed third in the first round of elections in the capital of São Paulo, gathered on site after the results were announced. Even without the businessman having advanced to the second round, supporters used the opportunity to “regret” the defeat of their chosen politician.
President Lula (PT), elected in 2022, brought thousands of people to Paulista that year. With his victory, supporters and voters gathered on the streets to celebrate the administration of the current chief executive.
Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PT) also had a mandate marked by acts in Paulista. The last one, as a former president, took place on September 7, on Brazil’s Independence Day, together with Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and other leaders.
