Diego Raymond: from prisoner to Globoplay star





A former drug dealer who appeared on the pages of the police in 2010, during the occupation of the Complexo do Alemão, Diego Raymond began his acting career at Globoplay.

After serving his sentence, the former Mister M of crime appears in the 3rd season of “The Division” and is in “O Jogo que Mudou a História”, a dramatization of the history of drug trafficking in Rio. Already registered, the two works will debut by the end of the year.

In an interview with Patricia Kogut’s column of the newspaper O Globo, she explained that she had the support of her family to turn herself in to the police. Thanks to her initiative, her sentence was reduced. He spent nine months in prison and left in 2011.

His record, instead of becoming a stigma, ended up facilitating his acting career, winning over producers looking for realism for detective productions.

The invitation to make the Globoplay series was made by José Junior, creator of the Grupo Cultural AfroReggae and author and creator of the productions, when he was still in prison.

“When I turned myself in to the police, José Júnior went to the police station and asked me if I was willing to start my life over and, if I did, I would already have a formal job when I got out of prison. Freed, I went to work at AfroReggae, where I took several courses. I became a cameraman and, therefore, I already knew the behind the scenes of the audiovisual, “said Raymond, who is also a crossfit athlete, model and football player American.

He confessed to having imagined working behind the camera in José Júnior’s productions and was reluctant to accept the invitation to act, out of shyness and shame, but is now quite comfortable in his new profession. “People praised me a lot,” Raymond said. “The next ones can come and I’m ready,” he said.

The actor also used the positive experience to inspire others, sharing the steps of his reconstruction with followers on social media.

“Getting out of crime is not an easy thing, but there is a way and I want to show it to others. I usually post my victories on social media, but I don’t do it to cause a stir. There are still (in crime) that there is. it’s light at the end of the tunnel. I want to be proof that a good criminal is not a dead criminal. People need opportunities, “he explained.

Additionally, he cites three special reasons for being successful as an artist and never returning to crime: two 13 and 12 year old daughters and a 4 year old son. “I want to give my children a good education, so that they don’t even think about getting close to the crime”.
