Conmebol requests the presence of Botafogo fans in Uruguay

In a document sent to the AUF, the entity threatens to leave its doors closed if it does not send written security guarantees

Conmebol spoke after the Uruguayan Ministry of the Interior issued an official note announcing the disqualification of Botafogo fans at the Campeón Del Siglo, against Peñarol, for the second leg of the Libertadores semi-final.

The body has sent a document to the Uruguayan Football Federation requesting that the parties involved guarantee the presence and safety of the visitors in the decisive clash until 10am this Tuesday (29). Furthermore, if they do not send this guarantee in writing, the match may take place without an audience or in another location.

Find out what the document says:

“We ask that the Ministry of the Interior of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, together with the Club Atlético Peñarol, guarantee in writing that there are the necessary security conditions to carry out the meeting with the presence of both parties, and that it be sent to Conmebol by October 29th, at 10 am (Paraguay), otherwise Conmebol reserves the right to:

1. Establish that the semi-final will be played without an audience, or

2. Transfer the match to another location, as provided for in the art. 4.2.2 of the Club Manual”.

The Botafogo Declaration

Faced with this situation, the Rio team repudiated the unilateral decision on single fans, which violates Conmebol rules. Furthermore, he said that Peñarol and the Uruguayan police set a dangerous precedent for the competition.

The second and decisive match is scheduled for this Wednesday (30th), at 9.30pm (Brasilia time), at the Campeón Del Siglo Stadium. Earlier, Glorioso beat the Uruguayan team 5-0 at the Nilton Santos Stadium. So for Botafogo the place in the final is practically guaranteed. To advance, Peñarol must win by six or more goals.
