Careful preparation and consumption of these drinks is important to ensure all their benefits.

For centuries, herbs have been widely used in the preparation of herbal teas for their therapeutic properties that promote well-being and promote health in many ways. This ancestral practice, present in several cultures, reflects the search for natural treatments, reinforcing the importance of plants as allies in maintaining a healthy life.

“Some of them effectively help in the treatment of various diseases since they have stimulating, calming, diuretic, anti-inflammatory properties, among others. With their consumption, in addition to increasing water intake, we take advantage of the minerals and antioxidant substances present”, explains sports nutritionist Alfredo D. Landeau Bobadilla.

Correct water temperature

The benefits of teas are countless, but it is necessary use safely and prepare it the right way. “Water that is too hot or cold can interfere with the correct release of the active ingredients of these plants. The appropriate temperature is that of the moment of boiling: when bubbles begin to escape on the walls of the pot, it is necessary to turn off the heat, heat and pour this water under the plant”, advises nutritionist Viviane Pereira.

Care of consumption

Although there are not many restrictions, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women should consume herbal teas only under medical advice. Another important factor is the amount of plants used a tea: “The greatest attention is paid to the quantity of plant that will be used, so that it is not consumed in excess or in less than the recommended quantity. The ideal is a dessert spoon, or the prescribed and/or indicated quantity of (e) grass(es)”, warns Viviane Pereira.

Ways to make tea

Below, the nutritionist provides some care tips when preparing some teas:

  • Teas with leaves and flowers must be prepared in the form of an infusion, that is, by immersing them in hot water;
  • Some teas can be prepared together, both to enhance their action and to soften their flavour, such as chamomile and lemon balm teas, which have a calming action, or hibiscus green tea to assist weight loss process;
  • Herbal teas without the most resistant parts, such as bark and roots, must be prepared using a decoction. In this process, the bark and roots must be heated together with water.

Functions of teas

Some teas can also aid in weight loss due to their thermogenic action, such as green tea. “To ensure good results, it is essential to combine good eating habits and regular physical activity,” says Viviane Pereira. Other teas can also help in the treatment of bad cholesterol, liver problems, flu, sore throat, among other illnesses.
