Character played in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi had a completely different plan at the beginning

One of the most iconic characters in his career Evan McGregoractor in films such as Trainspotting – No Limits (1996) and Moulin Rouge – Love in Red (2001), Obi-Wan Kenobi should have died in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999) in the initial plans for George Lucascreator of the franchise.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the film in question, the conceptual and storyboard artist Iain McCaig further revealed how Liam Neeson should interpret Obi-Wanbut the actor ended up with the role of the Jedi Qui-Gon.

“For a time, the oldest Jedi was called Obi-Wan and the youngest Jedi were called Qui-Gon. It was very moving that at the end, when Obi-Wan dies and Qui-Gon defeat Darth Maul and stays with his Master as he dies, he not only takes on his Master’s mission, but also takes on his name. Qui-Gon becomes Obi-Wan,” he stated (via StarWars.com).

That’s why when you see Alec Guinness in A New Hope (1977), he lowers his hood and says: ‘Obi-Wan? That’s a name I haven’t heard…’ because he’s not Obi-Wanhe is Qui-Gon. Right at the end, George changed that.

I.e, McGregor was always cast as the young version of the character, who would be called Qui-Gon and would adopt the name of the mentor, Obi-Wanafter the death of the character played by Neeson.
