Werewolves on Netflix: This great sci-fi saga inspired the movie

Since its launch on October 23rd, Loups-Garous has topped France’s weekly top 10 and even topped the worldwide “non-English language” category.

A major coup for Francois Ouzan’s feature film adaptation of the hit board game Les Loups-Garous de Thiercelieux. In order to bring this world to the screen, which sees a family enter a medieval village and encounter dangerous werewolves, the director and his team wanted to make an adventure film for the general public. For example, it’s impossible not to think of Jumanji with a set made especially for the occasion.

A little Han and a little Rey

But that wasn’t their only source of inspiration, as you’ll discover in our report below. AlloCiné was actually able to go to the filming of Loups-Garous in Prague in June 2023 and meet the teams involved in its design. During our meeting with costume designer Charlotte Betailole, the latter revealed that she was inspired by the sci-fi saga Star Wars to create the outfits of Frank DuBosky and Suzanne Clement.

Thus, it is the character of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) that became the model for the character of Daniel, and we can clearly see the inspiration with the white shirt and blue jacket. As for Marie, the costume designer wanted to bring out her adventurous and vigilant side by presenting Rey (Daisy Ridley) in close-up.

A The interview was given to NetflixThe director goes even further in comparisons and inspirations:

“With Charlotte, we had references: Han Solo for Daniel Balladin, Pirates of the Caribbean for Mom, Jean Reno, we were eyeing Belmondo in Cartouche. Charlotte’s team also did a lot of book research and M “I tried a lot. A variety of period appropriate fabrics created a medieval feel that was both realistic and a little pop, hopefully with iconic costumes for each character.

With a rating of 1.9 out of 5 on the AlloCiné profile, Loups-Garous joins the list of popular successes that critics are killing.
