Caicedo scores to end Manchester United’s celebrations in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea

Moisés Caicedo’s powerful second-half strike ended Manchester United’s lead created by Bruno Fernandes’ penalty and allowed Chelsea to secure a 1-1 draw against their rivals this Sunday, in the team’s first home match in the Premier League League after the dismissal of coach Erik ten Hag.

Chelsea occupy fourth place in the table, with 18 points, while United, led on an interim basis by Ruud van Nistelrooy, are in 13th place, with 12 points from 10 games.

United captain Fernandes scored from a penalty in the 70th minute after Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez hit Rasmus Hojlund’s foot as he tried to save the ball.

Fernandes deceived Sánchez, who went the other way, prompting Van Nistelrooy to celebrate.

But the atmosphere at Old Trafford changed quickly when Casemiro failed to fully clear a Chelsea corner, leaving Caicedo free to fire a low volley.

Goalkeeper André Onana also managed to touch the ball, but did not prevent it from entering the bottom corner.

Ten Hag was sacked on Monday, with United stuck in 14th place in the Premier League.

Ruben Amorim was named as his replacement on Friday and will take charge of the club on 11 November.
