He is definitely the most iconic character from the Walking Dead. More popular than Rick Grimes, Michonne or even Negan, Daryl Dixon has long been a favorite among fans of the horror series. The status is all the more surprising since the character does not appear in the comic strip adapted by the series!
The popularity of the character, of course, owes a lot to Norman Reedus, whose natural charm and the quality of his interpretation did not leave the audience indifferent… or the female audience. However, nothing could have predicted that the latter, along with Carol, would become the only characters of the program to appear in all eleven seasons of The Walking Dead, and then in its own spin-off.
Daryl Dixon, at first glance, is a despicable character
Still, Daryl wasn’t supposed to appear beyond a few episodes of the series. Also, Man wasn’t supposed to join a group of survivors, but instead became a bad guy in the vein of his older brother Merle (Michael Rooker). Thus, the Daryl who appears in the first episodes is an aggressive and racist bastard, far from the protective hero he later became.
“He was constantly embarrassed, bad about himself. So people would always bring me scripts where he had to do drugs and be a big racist like his brother… I struggled to change that because I thought he was just Shouldn’t have been a solid member of Alcoholics Anonymous.Norman Reedus explained in an interview CNET.
From zero to hero over eleven seasons
Daryl’s evolution helped show just how much the zombie invasion had displaced the series’ characters from their original destinies. “He was going to be her brother. But he found something, a sense of self-worth through these people… people he would never have been around if it weren’t for the revelation.” Analyzes the American actor on the microphone of our colleagues.
The rest of the story proved Norman Reedus right. Having become one of the main characters, after the departure of the leader of the group Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) in the middle of season 9, Daryl Dixon now experiences new adventures in France with his faithful Carol Pelletier (Melissa McBride), another character whose evolution in the series fans made him happy.
Season 2 episodes of Daryl Dixon can be seen every week exclusively on Paramount+ and also available with a subscription to Canal+.
