An MP has accused a teacher of encouraging “children to pronounce the names of the gods” of religions of African origin
The deputy parish priest of the district Daniele de Castro (PP) accused a public school teacher in Lago Sul, Brasilia, of teaching “magical rituals” in class. The MP accused the teacher of encouraging “children to pronounce the names of the gods” of religions of African origin.

In the video, published on October 24 on social media, the MP said he had reported the teacher to the Public Prosecutor of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT). The employee teaches the subject Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous History and Culture, an optional subject, chosen optionally by students.
“I am now making a statement to the parliamentarian, including audio and video in which this teacher instills an Afro religion in the heads of children and leads them to pronounce names and worship these entities. This is a crime,” he said.
The Centro Educacional do Lago (CEL) issued a statement of repudiation saying that the MP’s accusation is “false” and constitutes a “clear and unacceptable prejudice against religions of Afro-Brazilian origin”.
The CEL also declares that the contents taught by the teacher comply with the teaching guidelines of the Ministry of Education. “We do not tolerate any form of prejudice, including religious intolerance,” he adds.
On social media, the school said it believes in “a liberatory, anti-racist, feminist, gender-equal and science-enhancing education.” (See CEL publication below)
Grievance
Those responsible for managing the Lago Education Center also reported the case to the Education Commission of the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District (CLDF). In addition to the unauthorized recording of CEL’s activities, the management claims that the MP made a series of attacks, defamatory, racist and religious intolerance accusations against public employees in the exercise of their duties.
