THE YEMENI GROUP HAS NOT RELEASED A COMMUNICATION ON THE END OF ATTACKS ON ISRAELI TERRITORY DUE TO THE US ELECTIONS
What they share: that the Houthis, a rebel group in Yemen, declared a ceasefire with Israel after Donald Trump’s victory in the US elections.
Estadão Verifica has verified and concluded that: it is false because no trace has been found in the international press that the Houthis have announced the end of the attacks against Israel. The group is made up of Iranian-backed Shiite rebels who have been fighting the Yemeni government for about two decades. Furthermore, there was no statement like the one cited in the Houthi representatives’ post on social media. Trump won the US elections this Wednesday 6th.

Find out more: The publication shows a photo of Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree and claims that the group declared a ceasefire with Israel after Trump’s victory in the US elections. However, no such statement was found on the Yemeni army’s social networks or in specialized press documents.
The analyzed content uses a photo of a statement by Yahya Saree posted on X (formerly Twitter) on November 3. In the video, the representative states that “the Yemeni armed forces will continue to impose a maritime blockade on the Israeli enemy and attack all ships belonging to it, associated with it or en route to it. This blockade will remain in effect until the cessation of aggression and the lifting of the blockade against the Gaza Strip, as well as the cessation of aggression against Lebanon.”
The speech, therefore, precedes Trump’s victory on Wednesday the 6th and does not mention a ceasefire due to the election of a new president of the United States. Even the Arab press, such as Al Jazeera, did not publish information on the end of the conflict.
The Houthis are Shia rebels led by Abdul-Malik al-Houthi and supported by Iran. The group fights against the Yemeni government and controls the north-west of the country and the capital Sana. They define themselves as the “axis of resistance”, together with Hamas, in the Gaza Strip, and Hezbollah, in Lebanon. Due to the war on Palestinian territory in recent months, the Houthis have carried out attacks against ships in the Red Sea and on Israeli territory. In response, the US, UK and Israel fired missiles into Yemen.
Other enforcement initiatives, such as Aos Fatos and Agência Lupa, have also verified similar content.
How to handle posts like this: With the election of Donald Trump and the wait to know what the United States’ decisions will be regarding the conflict in the Middle East, it is likely that unconfirmed information on the topic will be circulating on social media. With a quick Google search we were able to verify that in the specialized press there is no document reporting a ceasefire between the Houthis and Israel. A statement like this would have had wide coverage in newspapers around the world.
