The cold front brings heavy rain to Brazil and meteorologists warn of a bomb cyclone

The south of the country is expected to be hardest hit by the formation of a bomb cyclone

The advance of a cold front promises a weekend of intense rain in different areas of Brazil. According to Climatempo’s forecasts, the passage of this front should reach states such as Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás and the Federal District. The regions of Bahia and Tocantins are also on alert for rainfall resulting from this climatic instability.

The formation of two cold fronts in the southern region of the country, associated with an extratropical cyclone, is the main factor causing the rainfall. On Thursday the 7th, the first of these cold fronts moved seaward, bringing polar air with it, according to Climatempo.

Today the cold air combined with a low pressure area leads to the formation of a new cold front, accompanied by the extratropical cyclone.

Even if the cyclone rapidly moves away from the Brazilian coast, its indirect effects will continue to influence the weather, bringing widespread precipitation. According to MetSul, states such as Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo are expected to receive heavy rain on Saturday, while Sao Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul will continue to rain, but with an expectation of improvement everywhere. the day.

For the weekend, experts also warn of the possible consequences of heavy rain, such as flash floods and rough sea conditions, which increase the risks for swimmers on the coasts of the southern and south-eastern regions.

Climatempo also predicts the formation of a bomb cyclone over the Atlantic Ocean, near the coasts of the southern region, next Tuesday. The phenomenon that occurs when a cold air mass comes into contact with a warm air mass could cause strong winds and torrential rain.

This process is capable of generating storms that, in extreme cases, can reach the strength of a category 3 hurricane. The bomb cyclone is characterized by rapid intensification and, although it is not expected to hit Brazil directly, it will bring strong winds, especially in Rio. Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná.
