In the aftermath of the Oscars, Will Smith sees that his development projects have stalled, this is the case with his new collaboration with Netflix, “Fast and Furious”.
Minutes before receiving his first Oscar, on March 27, Will Smith surprised the whole world. A tasteless joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, irritates the actor. He walks on stage and hits comedian Chris Rock. After that evening, the Hollywood star repeatedly apologized and left the academy.
His career also began to suffer with this gesture. Some of his projects are particularly sidelined, including Fast & Loose, his new collaboration with Netflix. For this action film, Will Smith is set to star alongside David Leach, alongside John Wick stuntman and director Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, and soon Bullet Train with Brad Pitt.
In the development phase the project was already shining on the biggest studios like Warner, MGM or even Paramount. Eventually it was the streaming giant who won the jackpot.
In Fast & Loose, the actor’s qualities should be dedicated to John Riley, a man who wakes up in Tijuana, dead and left in amnesia. He discovers that he has lived two different lives: he was the lord of a criminal with a luxurious lifestyle and a CIA secret agent, a true lone wolf. When he tries to put together a puzzle of his own past, the protagonist will have to choose sides.
The only problem: a week before the Oscar ceremony, the thriller loses its director. The latter is dedicated to another film, Fall Guy by Ryan Gosling, for Universal. Fast & Loose went on a break forever after the hitting incident. According to sources released by The Hollywood Reporter, the platform has not yet decided whether the project will go with another actor and another director.
This information also undermines the development of Bright 2, a sequel to the David Ayer feature film that was a real success when it hit Netflix in 2017. The second part, which was announced the following year, was supposed to start filming in 2019, but Jobs Willie Smith’s busy schedule was constantly delaying production. Bright noted the first collaboration between the actor and the streaming giant.
Recently, Bad Boys 4 came into standby mode. Will Smith had already received the first 40 pages of the script. Soon the Oscar-winning star will appear in the emancipation of Antoine Fukua. Adapted from a true story, this Apple TV + film tells the story of a slave in Louisiana who ran away from his plantation to join the army.
