One of the greatest films of his career Tom Cruise (Lestat de Lioncourt) and Brad Pitt (Louis de Pointe du Lac), Interview with the Vampire It almost had a slightly different cast. In the pre-production period, Daniel Day-Lewis was approached to star in the production directed by Neil Jordan.

It is worth remembering how the film was nominated in two categories of Oscar 1995: Best Soundtrack and Best Art Direction. During an interview with Variety to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film’s release, Jordan recalled contacts with Day-Lewis.

“Daniel was mentioned by the studio, but I never thought he would do it. I sent him the script and, unsurprisingly, he said he didn’t want to do a vampire movie. So a lot of people were mentioned,” he said.

“The particular favorites of Anne [Rice, autora do livro no qual o filme foi baseado] they were great people like Rutger Hauer and Jeremy Ironsbut we went through the normal casting process and then Tom Cruise was suggested,” the filmmaker continued.

I went to find Tone twice and then I thought I could get something really great happening here. I always admired Tone as an actor, but other than the fact that he was the biggest star at the time.
