Klas Berlingfather of the late DJ Aviciiduring an interview for the SiriusXMspoke about his relationship with his son’s legacy and the complex journey the artist went through.
The interview took place on the program Radio Aviciiprogramming launched in collaboration with the Tim Bergling Foundation, a philanthropic organization founded by Avicii’s family and dedicated to raising awareness and fighting mental health problems in young people. Bergling sat down to talk GeronimoVice President of Electronic Music Programming at SiriusXM and host of the show.
The conversation started when Geronimo mentioned all the work done by Foundation Tim Bergling causes Avicii seems to still be among us. To this comment, Berling responded thus “That’s the hard part about him being, you know, so famous and still so popular, because he’s still going to be here as long as my wife and I are alive.”
Klas and Geronimo also commented on the PopHouse Entertainment, investment firm that, in 2022, purchased the majority of Avicii’s music catalog and partnered with the Tim Bergling Foundation to plan the future of the artist’s legacy.
Responding to the host’s question about whether the deal with PopHouse would ensure a lasting legacy for his son, Bergling responded: “Absolutely. That’s what we hoped for and that was the reason behind our decision, and obviously another very, very strong guarantee was of music catalogs for the Tim Berling foundation”.
The Tim Bergling Foundation’s work on Avicii’s legacy
Karl explained it too “We announced that we would guarantee the operation of the foundation for at least 50 years. We chose that figure because that would be the age Tim could reach with our current standard of living.”
Kal Berling I concluded by talking a little about the current state of the foundation, saying that “Our goal is huge and the foundation is growing. We have a very, very good team in Stockholm, so for me I feel relaxed about the idea of depending on the team to continue the project, you know, for when I no longer have the chance to be there, and it’s important for me and my wife to know that there will be someone who will continue the work.”
From the interview it is possible to see that for Karl Berling, although Avicii’s fame and popularity bring to light the pain of the tragedy for his father, the work of preserving his son’s memory is work that comes from a deep sense of love . something only a devoted father could accomplish.
