Please note that the following is a plot detail for the first episode of Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2, now available on Paramount+. If you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want to know anything about its content, I suggest you stop reading this article now.
The hatch does not appear to be buried yet. Either way, Kevin Costner seems to be done with Yellowstone for good. The American actor actually decided not to reprise his role as John Dutton for the second part of season 5 due to scheduling issues related to the production of the series.
Kevin Costner couldn’t care less about a Yellowstone sequel
So Yellowstone aired this Monday, November 11th, and Kevin Costner’s absence forced the writers to kill off his character. A sudden and brutal death that many fans had a hard time accepting. The latter is no longer worried about the issues of the series and also seems not to want to continue watching it.
In an interview with YouTube channel The Michael Smerconish Program (watch below), the 69-year-old actor briefly responded to John Dutton’s death: “I heard it was a suicide, and it doesn’t make me want to watch much.” He especially commented.
With the re-release of our colleague, Kevin Costner assessed that John Dutton, in his opinion, was not the kind of person who would take his own life. “They’re intelligent people. Maybe it’s a false lead. Who knows? They’re very good. They’ll figure it out.” he added during this interview.
“I couldn’t help them.”
John Dutton’s interpreter also addressed the circumstances of his departure and reiterated that he did not resign from the show and that the decision was not his:
“There were contractual aspects that allowed me to do a TV series and other things (…) everything was planned, but they had a hard time fulfilling their obligations.
“I adapted for them twice, and when they wanted to postpone the shooting for the third time, even though there was a 300-person crew waiting for me, I couldn’t help. But I didn’t leave the series.”– he claimed during this interview. “Everyone has to fulfill their obligations, and it doesn’t matter what job you do.”
