The canyon fills again after more than 100 days of drought in Mato Grosso

Ao Terra, a tour guide, reported on the situation in the region

The Jatobá Canyon has filled up again after a drought that lasted about 100 days, in Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade (MT). The report of the ‘discovery’ of the tourist attraction with crystal clear waters was published on the social media of guide Luana Samaia.

Al Earththe professional who has been working in the tourism sector in the city for six years, said that the reduction of water in the region’s rivers is a common phenomenon. During these periods, a decrease in visitors becomes common.

“From December to June we have a lot of water. When the dry period arrives, the natural appearance begins to change. Ultimately the number of people is reduced. We know that most people want to see everything very full, crystal clear water, impressive waterfalls. But this doesn’t stop tourism 100%. It gives a drastic reduction due to the appearance. But there are people who prefer the aspect of walking and seeing the environment,” says the guide.

Even with the gradual return of rain, the best time for tourists to travel to Vila Bela from Santíssima Trindade begins in December. Every year around 8 thousand people visit the region.

“We have already managed to fill some attractions. There is still a lot of rain missing, the normal thing is that the ‘rain’ arrives in December and it rains everything. It’s just a matter of time,” added the tour guide.

Again according to Luana, the level of drought varies from season to season. Two years ago, city rivers had water, albeit in smaller quantities, throughout the year.
