The game
Bia Haddad started the match in a very long first match and was destroyed after a long fight. She was unable to land her powerful blows while her rival fought and showed mental strength. Ortenzi opens the break, Bia recovers by returning to 3/4, but the Argentine breaks out again, opening 5/3 and closing 6/3 after 54 minutes after hotly contested points. There were 18 unforced errors from the Brazilian.
Ortenzi gained confidence and took a 4-0 lead only by putting the ball in play while Haddad Maia made repeated errors. Bia played his first match, raised the stage, responded in one of the breaks to bring it back to 4-2, but Ortenzi broke again and served 40-15 for the victory. The Brazilian was constant, she saw her rival make mistakes, responded to the break and served with 3/5.
Bia had a high number of unforced errors with 31 against her opponent’s eleven, but the eighth game of the second set changed the situation and little by little the Brazilian became more consistent, gained confidence, played five games in a row and finished with 7/5 lifting the crowd in Ibirapuera.
In the third set Haddad Maia’s posture was different. He opened 4-1 and gave no more chances, breaking again in the eighth game to reach 6/2 despite resistance and three match-points saved by Hermana.
