People receive guidance on using electric scooters in Porto Alegre

There are currently around 1,700 electronic scooters from the companies JET (blue vehicles) and Woosh (yellow vehicles) circulating in Porto Alegre.

The Public Mobility School of the Public Transport and Circulation Company (EPTC) participates this Saturday 16th in the Safe Driving School activity which will be carried out by the scooter company JET on Section 3 of the Waterfront. The action will take place from 1pm to 3pm and will see e-scooter users approaching with the aim of instructing users on the correct and safe use of the means of transport. Public School agents will advise where to use the scooter, while company representatives will explain how to use the equipment, through short lessons that will demonstrate driving, the braking system, the use of the accelerator and speed limits.

“We have developed educational activities for this audience because we often see incorrect use of equipment that compromises road safety. We work in collaboration with the two companies that operate in the city, always with the aim of guiding users of this active mode”, underlines the Director of Education, Cirilo FaĆ©.

Traffic is permitted at speeds of up to 20 km/h on cycle paths, cycle paths and cycle paths, and at a maximum speed of 6 km/h in pedestrian traffic areas. In agreement with the municipality, in Orla do Guaiba the limit is 10 km/h. The use of a helmet is not mandatory, however the EPTC recommends its use together with other protective equipment such as gloves and knee pads. Electric scooters must be equipped with a speed indicator, bell, front, rear and side night signs.

There are currently around 1,700 electronic scooters from the companies JET (blue vehicles) and Woosh (yellow vehicles) circulating in Porto Alegre. The use and traffic of these vehicles is monitored by operator monitors and EPTC traffic officers. In the case of operators, monitors observe the behavior of users who can be identified by the scooters’ unique identification numbers (prefixes).

The rental operation of these vehicles also complies with Municipal Decree no. 20.358/2019, which regulates the use of urban mobility infrastructure in Porto Alegre to manage the sharing service of human-powered bicycles and scooters, electric bicycles and individual self-propelled electric equipment (scooters), electric and others), without a station physical, through a technological platform on roads and public places.
