Sport rehabilitates itself in Serie B by beating Ponte Preta 4-0 on Saturday evening at the Moisés Lucarelli, in Campinas, on the 37th matchday
On Saturday evening (16), Sport beat Ponte Preta 4-0, at the Moises Lucarelli stadium, in the penultimate round of Serie B. Pernambuco’s winning goals were scored by Chrystian Barletta, Fabricio Domínguez, Fabinho and Rafael Thyere.
With this result Sport returns to G-4 in Serie B, reaching 63 points, occupying fourth position. Ponte Preta is in a delicate situation, holding 38 points, in 17th place, and could be relegated to the group.
Both teams will return to the field next Sunday (24th), for the last round of Serie B. Leão hosts Santos, on Ilha do Retiro, at 6.30pm. Macaca visits Avaí, in Ressacada, also at 6.30 pm.
Needing a result to keep their promotion hopes alive, Sport started the match on the front foot and the pressure paid off. After six minutes, Lucas Lima sent Barletta into action, who crossed the defense and sent a left-footed shot between the legs of Pedro Rocha. With an advantage on the scoreboard, Leão began to control the match without difficulty, inhibiting Macaca’s attacks.
When it seemed that Ponte Preta would rebalance the action, missing a clear opportunity with Renato, practically on the spot, Macaca had Luiz Felipe sent off for a very harsh foul on Barletta. Behind on the scoreboard, the home team launches into attack, but leaves space in defense. Lenny Lobato went to the baseline and hit a cross, Fabricio Domínguez deflected it into the net and increased the score for Leão.
At the end of the first half, the game reopens in the final minutes, with both teams launching an attack, but managing to reach the goal.
In the second phase Sport maintained a fast pace and continued to press from the first minutes. And after just two minutes, from a corner, Rafael Thyere gets up and finishes after Chico’s deflection, increasing Leão’s lead. In a delicate situation, Ponte Preta has no choice but to attack. However, the numerical inferiority ended up penalizing the home team. In the best of times, Gabriel Novaes finished well and the ball passed dangerously, next to Caique França’s goal.
Dejectedly, Macaca simply watched Sport control the game and in the end there was still time for Lucas Lima to cross into the area and Fabinho, completely free, headed past goalkeeper Pedro Rocha to seal the score for Majestoso.
