A specialist in morally complex characters, Billy Bob Thornton was the perfect actor for this series. The latter had already collaborated with Taylor Sheridan, during an eye-catching appearance in an 1883 episode of his mini-series as a sheriff with accelerated methods.

A major TV personality of the 2010s, Jon Hamm also lends his chops to a character that seems to have been written for him. A businessman in a suit in a region where everyone wears cowboy boots and hats, he is the epitome of capitalist evil.

However, we may regret that Demi Moore had to settle for a simple “wife” role, especially in the same year that she made a brilliant return to the fore thanks to the film “Substance”. Particularly troubling is the hypersexualization of the young woman, played by Michelle Randolph, the stereotype of an insufferable daddy’s girl.

The missing link between Yellowstone and Sicario?

A true sequel to Yellowstone (although the two series are not related at all), Landman also brings to mind the sticky and menacing atmosphere of the film Sicario (written by Taylor Sheridan). The importance given to all levels of the oil industry, not just its wealthy owners, sets the series apart from most productions set in the same world.

Adequately mastered to compensate for the lack of originality, Landman fits perfectly into the world of Yellowstone’s creator. The second season is already in production and it will be surprising if this series fails to meet its audience. There’s also no doubt that Taylor Sheridan already has ideas for expanding this new product into a franchise if it’s successful.
