Once again, Globo will need a remake to save its most profitable time slot

The disbelief over the reaction to ‘Mania de Você’ on Ibope doubles the expectations and the weight on ‘Vale Tudo’

Despite several changes in the plot, ‘Mania de Você’ does not react. The average of the 60 chapters shown is 21 points. Considering the number alone, without counting the proportionality of each point on Ibope over time, this is the lowest index recorded by the network’s main soap opera (at 8 or 9 pm) since ‘Rosa Rebelde’, in 1969.

The plot of João Emanuel Carneiro, author of the hits ‘Avenida Brasil’, ‘A Favorita’ and ‘Todas as Flores’, still has 4 months left. There is time to reverse the disinterest of audiences who have migrated to other means of entertainment, but a satisfactory recovery is increasingly unlikely. Getting close to the 30-year goal has become unrealistic.

At Globo no one threw in the towel. The 9 o’clock soap opera is its flagship product, with the most expensive commercial breaks. But in practice expectations are aimed at the next production, ‘Avenida Brasil’, a classic of the 1988 series updated by Manuela Dias.

It won’t be the first time a remake has arrived with the mission of increasing the network’s primetime audience. ‘Pantanal’ debuted after ‘Um Lugar ao Sol’ averaged 22.3 points. They managed to finish with 7 points more, an impressive recovery.

It was hoped that the second version of ‘Renascer’ would achieve the same feat, however, it ultimately scored lower than its criticized predecessor ‘Terra e Paixão’. Even so, having achieved an average of 25.5, it was not considered a failure, as was the case with ‘Mania de Você’.
