The actress played Grace Margaret Mulligan in the film directed by Lars von Trier
Nicole Kidman reflected on past film roles, including that of Grace Margaret Mulligan in Dogville (2003). In the feature film directed by Lars von Triershe had to wear an iron collar.
In an interview with GQ British (via People), the actress said: “Lars was Larsand I was, like, terrified of him and, at the same time, attracted to him. It was bizarre.”
“There was a point where they put this dog collar on me, which was kind of like a metal collar. And then we were filming, and it was so heavy and hard to take off,” he added.
“I remember being with [a coleira] and say”, he recalled Kidman while simulating difficulty breathing and placing his hands on his neck. “And the Lars thought I was acting. But actually, I was like…”

“So when he cut it, I said, ‘Take it away! Take it away from me!’ I’ll never forget that,” he continued. The actress explained that she accepted the role because she “desperately wanted to work” with the director of Melancholia (2011).
“We talked on the phone. I read Dogville; everyone said, ‘What is this?’ And he sent me some pictures of what it would look like, and it was just tape on the floor. I thought, ‘I loved it. Perfect’. But everyone was like…”, he added, referring to the feature film’s minimalist setting.
