Ah, Christmas movies… there’s been plenty on the small screen since November, but no one seems to be complaining about them. Proof with My Beautiful Snowman, in which Netflix revisits the spirit of Christmas stories by presenting an original script.
What if Santa Claus Frost becomes an irresistible man? With pills everywhere? This film follows the adventures of Jack, a magical snowman played by Dustin Milligan, who comes to life and enters the daily life of cafe owner Cathy, played by Lacey Chabert. Once they meet, an unexpected romance blossoms between them, bringing warmth and magic to a small snowy town.
A novel that takes the codes of the great classics
My Handsome Snowman borrows elements from romantic comedy classics like Pretty Woman and Splash. There are shopping scenes, unexpected moments of seduction and Lolita with me in spite of Lacy Chabert, but also a meta joke showing an excerpt from the film.
The story is made with attractive characters and light humor and it seems that this was enough to attract the audience to the rom-coms of the 2000s, playing on the lightness, the film takes some liberties with moments of humor and touches.
