Is the most valuable commodity a good movie? Spectators express their opinion on the new work of Michel Hazanavicius

There were The Artist, The Search, Le Redoutable and Coupez!, which opened the 2022 edition last May, Michel Hazanavicius awarded his fifth appearance at the Cannes Film Festival (and fourth in competition) with the film Most Valuable Goods.

Or the adaptation of Jean-Claude Grumberg’s novel of the same name, which focuses on World War II and the Shoah (without ever being named) and marks the director’s first forays into animation. The project, which started in 2018 and was marred by Covid, is finally on our screens, but what do viewers think?

With an average rating of 3.9* out of 5 from 72 ratings, The Most Valuable Goods begins almost at the level of The Artist (4), which remains Michel Hazanavicius’ highest rated film to date.

With the American class (4.1), which we have singled out a bit, because it is more a story of editing and dubbing than of actual staging.

What do viewers think of “The Most Valuable Commodity”?

“The Most Valuable Commodity is an absolutely magnificent and moving film that deals with skill and intelligence with the serious subject of the Shoah.”said Synalok (5 out of 5).

“The film makes us cry several times and the animation allows the film to touch everyone, including the little ones, regardless of the subject matter. This is a film that haunts our thoughts long after we leave the theater and is undoubtedly one of the best. Movies of this year.”

that Crolock (same note) confirms: “Sections follow each other with rare tenderness and sensitivity. Funny, exciting and heartbreaking at the same time. Undoubtedly a great animated film.”

“No, animated films are not cartoons, yes, this may be the biggest slap of the year.”adds Gregoire Alex (the same). “This simplistic little tale condemns genocide like no other film has ever done. With its silence, its cold colors, we are drawn into this world from the first moments.”

“Black and white images emphasize the horror of the subject”said Nellie b (5 of 5), echoes the previous comment. “This film should be shown in all high schools.

“A magnificent film that perfectly uses the play of color contrasts in its images, the darkness and the whiteness of snow, to bear witness to the monstrosity or purity of humanity, its horrors or moments of solidarity”writing Hugo C. (4 of 5)

“This simple little tale condemns genocide like no other film has ever done.”

The quality of the animation, the sensitive approach to the subject and the emotion, therefore, appear to be the great strengths of the feature film. And this last quality is related to the sound aspect of the film: “Without disclosure, the finale and the vote Jean-Louis Trinignan leave us in tears”says BabsyDriver (4 of 5).

“MusicAlexandre Desplat We are all about to get wrapped up in a tragic story, where the voice of Jean-Louis Trinignan takes us away from the very first seconds.”we can read Mario C. (same note). “We come completely shaken, not falling into tearful “pathos”.

“How decently can one speak ill of the most precious commodity?”asks Crossing 1Which still only gives it a 3.5 out of 5. Maybe because he thinks his representation is Shoa, sometimes “Or it won’t be too strong, it’s up to everyone.

There’s nothing bad to say about The Most Precious Commodity, but that’s primarily because the film finds a balance between tragedy, romance, and kindness. And with an exquisite painting where death trains weaken the shame of humanity.

“Despite the strong theme and good intentions, I come away mixed because I’m left out of emotions, especially because of the music, which is very common and heavy.”Critically evaluates his side Ian C. (3 out of 5).

while Naughty Doc (3.5 out of 5) I regret it “The emotional dimension is somewhat diminished by its simple plot (we are in a 1h 20 tale after all), while Desplat’s music is too important in a really good climax.”

“The film finds a balance between tragedy, romance and kindness”

Highlighted among the positive points by several viewers, the simplicity of the story is somewhat questioned by others. And it’s not just about music.

Simon Bernard (3 out of 5) regret it “That certain scenes fall into ‘easy’ horror”when Jean-Luc G (3.5 out of 5) Fingers crossed “The bombing of mass graves was very persistent” in one of the scenes.

“There was a way to do something a little bit original without deviating from the message that he wanted to convey, and at the same time that the message gained strength through speculation rather than almost aggressive explanation.”resume Good luck with Enilorak (3 of 5) on this topic.

“The adaptation of this fairy tale does not bring a new theme in the end”

The lack of originality (and the rusticity of the two main characters), which is also critical LeFilCine (2.5 out of 5): “The adaptation of this fairy tale ultimately does not introduce a new theme and form that should have brought some lightness, on the contrary, it brings an even heavier side to the story.”

After all Omg151 (1.5 out of 5), clearly more of a fan of Michel Hazanavicius’ comedies, finds little to like here: “This movie disappointed me. First of all, for the animation, which seemed to me very bad and quite ugly. Also disappointed with sentimentality and good feelings, the movie has its ass between two chairs, neither for children nor for adults, I was bored. Everything is so arranged and not surprising.”

in short

While most viewers applaud the visual aspect and sensitivity with which Michel Hazanavicius tells the story, others are less convinced by the animation and point to a lack of originality in the subject matter, as well as the music and some of the scenes. Strong, which undermines integrity.

and you Were you shocked by the most precious commodity?
