The Disney + premiere date of “Lightyear,” a Disney and Pixar prequel to “Toy Story”, has finally been announced.
Disney has announced that “Lightyear” will arrive on its streaming platform, Disney +, on August 3. The film was released in theaters on July 16, showing the film that Andy would have seen in theaters that inspired the creation of the beloved doll of the boy we know in the “Toy Story” franchise.
Olhar Digital watched the film (see our impressions here) and spoke to director, creator and screenwriter Angus MacLane, producer Galyn Susman, and NASA astronaut Thomas Marshburn, who served as a consultant for the film (read l interview here).
Buzz Lightyear, who has the voice of Chris Evans in the American version and Marcos Mion in the Brazilian dub, along with his crew, go on an intergalactic adventure and find themselves lost 4.2 million light years from Earth, without the fuel in able to take the ship home.
He then embarks on a mission to try to correct his mistake that left them stranded on a hostile planet, but this has consequences for his life and the lives of those he loves. Buzz is helped by a group of friends and the funny robot cat SOX, and eventually has to face an army of robots that threaten his mission.
Lightyear is directed by Angus MacLane and written by MacLane and Jason Headley. In addition to Buzz and SOX, many new characters are introduced, with voices from Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn, Taika Waititi, James Brolin, Bill Hader, Uzo Aduba and Efren Ramirez.
Since “Two Brothers: A Fantastic Journey”, the 2020 film, Pixar hasn’t had an exclusive theatrical release. In the intervening period, “Soul”, “Luca” and “Red: Growing Up Is a Beast” debuted directly on Disney +.
Now, “Lightyear” will also be streaming to Disney on August 3rd.
