Vovjoda points out that Fortaleza didn’t know how to kill the match against Fluminense

The Argentine coach regrets the draw at the Maracanã, with a goal conceded in the 40th minute of the second half

Fortaleza went to Maracanã this Friday (22nd) to face Fluminense in the 34th round of the Brazilian championship. After starting to lose, the team managed to turn the situation around, but conceded an equalizer in the 39th minute of the final phase. The result keeps the team in the title fight, although they are still five points behind leaders Botafogo.

In the press conference after the duel, coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda emphasized that his team was unable to maintain the result and define the match against Fluminense.

“The team played a good game, but didn’t have the efficiency needed to close the game. We had chances with Breno Lopes and two with Hércules, but we weren’t able to define them and in the end we conceded a draw. Football is like that, but we came out with a bit of pain because we are fighting for the title”, said the coach.

Fortaleza also complained a lot about a penalty not awarded in their favor. Vojvoda recalled a similar move against Palmeiras, in which the referee’s decision was different.

“The referee [Raphael Claus] It’s beautiful, one of the best in South America. Look, I don’t like talking about refereeing, but there was the penalty against Breno. We did a similar action against Palmeiras. However, I have nothing to say about the referee, who is very good”, commented the coach.

Now Fortaleza will face Flamengo next Tuesday, the 26th, at Castelão. The match, valid for the 35th day of the Brasileirão, is scheduled for 8pm (Brasilia time).
