How do I know if I forgot some money? Discover!

According to the Central Bank, more than 41 million people have money forgotten at financial institutions that can be redeemed.

Summary

Brazilians are entitled to receive the remaining amounts in old bank accounts and investment funds through the Central Bank’s credit system, but the official deadline has expired. Criminals can try to defraud people by providing personal information during a credit check.

A little extra money is always welcome and, even if it seems impossible, many Brazilians are entitled to receive a sum of money and don’t even know it. Residual values from old bank accounts and investment funds, for example, can be withdrawn!

To allow the withdrawal of these amounts, the Central Bank created the Receivable Values System (SVR), which anyone can access easily and free of charge.

Find out in the text below how SVR works and if you ask yourself “How do I know if I forgot some money??”, here’s how to find out now:

How to know if I forgot money: step by step

  • Access the page Amounts to be received of the Central Bank
  • Click on the “View Credits” section.
  • Enter the CPF (yours or that of a deceased person) or the CNPJ (of companies that have already closed)
  • Enter your date of birth or date of opening of the CNPJ
  • Transcribe the characters displayed on the verification screen
  • Click on “consult”
  • Find out if you have credits

It is important to highlight that the website valorareceber.bcb.gov.br It is the only portal where you can access the system, and if they offer other links it is an attempt at fraud and scam.

If you have no money to receive, the following message will appear: “No amount to receive was found for the data entered”.

I have amounts to receive, how do I request a receipt?

  • Log in to the website bcb.gov.br/meubc/valores-a-receber
  • Log in with your gov.br account (silver or gold level)
  • The system screen will show the amount, details of the institution that will return the money, the source and other information
  • Select “Request here”, enter your personal data and Pix key and save the protocol number, the amount will be refunded within 12 working days.

If the “Request via here” option does not have a Pix key for selection, contact the financial institution indicated above by telephone or email to define the methods of returning the money. However, it is worth noting that in this case the refund time may take longer than 12 working days.

It is also possible that the “Request here” option is not present on the site and in this case the applicant must contact the institution and agree on a way to receive this money and, even in this case, the deadline could be more than 12 days useful .

How to request credits from deceased and closed companies?

In this case the procedure will be the same as previously carried out, but it will not be possible to receive the forgotten amounts via the Pix system.

The interested party must contact the financial institution via the email and telephone number that appear in the survey and define the methods for withdrawing this money. It is important to explain that in these cases there is no deadline for repaying the sums.

What is the origin of the credits?

According to the Central Bank panel, as of November 7, 2024, there were 8.5 billion reais available for withdrawal and more than 7 billion had already been returned.

Of the amount still available, R$6.6 billion is available for withdrawal by 41.5 million people. Most Brazilians have to receive amounts between R$ 00.00 and R$ 10.00.

These values come from several sources:

  • Balance of closed bank accounts
  • Fees charged incorrectly
  • Unsought resources from dissolved consortium groups
  • Register accounts managed by brokers and traders
  • Judicial deposits without withdrawal

Until when can I withdraw the credits?

The official deadline to withdraw the resources expired on October 16 and the 8.5 billion were transferred to the National Treasury. However, according to the Ministry of Finance, interested parties can contest these values within six months by legal means.

If there is no dispute in the collection of these amounts, the amount will be definitively incorporated into the Union budget.

How important is it to collect credits?

According to the Central Bank, in September more than 931 thousand people had amounts exceeding R$1,000.01 to redeem. These values can be important for supplementing your budget, taking advantage of Black Friday deals, paying taxes, creating an emergency fund, investing, traveling, among other applications.

However, as already mentioned, most Brazilians with credits have very small amounts. The majority is between R$ 0.00 and R$ 10.00 (63%) and between R$ 10.01 and R$ 100.00 13.2 million accounts, approximately 25% of the total.

Tips to avoid falling victim to credit check scams

Although most accounts have a low amount, criminals can take advantage of the situation and try to carry out scams.

More than the sum, scammers are interested in personal information such as CPF/CNPJ data and can obtain, for example, the government password.

To protect yourself from scams, it is important to remember not to click on suspicious links or links received via social networks, such as WhatsApp and Telegram, SMS or even emails.

The Central Bank always underlines that it does not contact citizens to communicate the amounts to be received, nor to verify personal data, much less with links, therefore any interaction of this nature is a scam.

The BC also informs that only the institution that appears in the credit consultation will be able to contact you, but that both the institution and the Central Bank will never ask for personal data or passwords.

Again according to the Central Bank, credits do not require any type of payment to be consulted, much less received. It is worth noting that the amount is not paid by credit card.

Scammers can also replicate the official website of the Central Bank, so always check if the domain “www.bcb.gov.br” appears in the search bar of your browser, if the “https://” security protocol exists on the site and a padlock appears informing you that the connection is secure.

These tips are useful for any type of Internet browsing, especially when entering sensitive information on a website.
