Cat Eyes: This detail may be overlooked, but it’s crucial!

After weeks of waiting and teasing, Cat’s Eyes is finally airing on TF1! Good news for manga fans who have been eagerly waiting to discover this French adaptation.

“We wanted realistic, functional and modern costumes”

Aware of the audience’s expectations, the two producers Maddy Sabar and Benjamin Dupont-Julien wanted to keep as much as possible their inspiration in bringing modernity to the interpretation of the manga. And it also included our hero’s outfit, as they showed our colleagues at Télé-Loisirs: We wanted realistic, functional and modern clothing.

They continue confidently: “There was a lot of work on the costumes, the design, the material and the texture. They were made in Valencia by the workshop that makes the costumes for the Marvel movies, but we were looking for a practical material with them, while offering a beautiful rendering of the image.”

“We did a lot of testing with the lighting. Together with the costume designer, we also discussed shades that reference the color codes of the manga’s overalls – dark blue for Tam, purple for Celia and orange for Alexia – but regardless. All reasonable at night.” they conclude.

“We discussed the reliability of the costumes”

For his part, director Alexandre Laurent confirms that the aim was primarily realistic, as he revealed to AlloCiné: We talked a lot about the world of cat eyes with the main designer. We discussed the color scheme, for example, the reliability of the costumes. “

He adds: “We respected the color of the costumes, but I didn’t want it to be flashy, because it’s not very discreet. They’re less sexy, they’re practical and technical. We wanted to say that we can find them at the Decathlon.”

But another question arose! In the original version, the three sisters wear heels, but this is an issue that the producers quickly agreed on: To modernize the manga, we told ourselves that the girls weren’t going to run around in heels (…) That’s where the costume designer did an incredible job!”

“Women don’t need to wear heels to be feminine.”

“Women today don’t need to wear heels to be feminine. He wanted to show a different image of a woman in a certain way, and it was convenient for us, because the goal was to cross the rooftops of Paris. We told ourselves that there was no point in wearing them in slightly higher or heeled shoes. We had to make them wear realistic things.”

Also, at one point Celia’s character tells her sisters that she can’t run because she has heels, this is also where we take responsibility for our choices. Moreover, Constance Labe, interviewed by Télé-Loisirs, confirms: Running on the rooftops of Paris in heels is tough. We won’t be able to do exactly what the fans imagined.”

To find out the rest of the adventures of Celia (Constance Labbé), Tam (Camille Lou) and Alexia (Claire Romain), tune in next Monday from 9.10pm on TF1 and stream on TF1+.
