Competitions in the United States and Brazil are not as similar as we think
In the United States, the person responsible for this sport is the National Basketball Association (NBA), the main professional basketball league in North America, which has fans around the world. Here in Brazil we have the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), a men’s competition organized by the National Basketball League.
Even though the two have the same purpose, playing basketball, they have big differences. THE MALĂ™ will explain everything about them!
Assume
The North American League holds a batting average of draftin which the 30 franchises choose players from college basketball. Here, Brazilian teams depend on sieves and good contracts to attract players to their teams.
Duration
An NBA game consists of four halves of 12 minutes each, with a 15-minute break between the second and third halves. In NBB, the format is the same, but each half lasts 10 minutes.
Ball possession
In the NBA, each team can have a maximum of 24 seconds in possession of the ball before throwing it to the basket. In NBB the time is the same, but if the offense gets the rebound, that 24 seconds drops to 14.
Size and distance
In the USA the size of the courts is 28.65 x 15.24 m; and the three-point line is 7.24 m from the basket. Here in Brazil, the size of the fields is 28 x 15 meters; and the distance between the line and the basket is 6.75 m.
Timeouts and absences
NBA: There are six timeouts for each team, plus two overtimes, lasting between 60 and 100 seconds. A player is only sent off if he reaches his sixth individual foul or if he has committed two technical fouls.
NBB: Timeouts are divided into two in the first half and three in the second, all 60 seconds. During overtime, it is a timeout for each team. An athlete is expelled from the match if he reaches the fifth foul, counting individual and technical fouls.
Number of games
NBA: During the regular season there are 82 games per team. However, franchises that advance to playoffsthey still face more controversy, which could lead to an increase of 28 games in total.
NBB: The competition this year includes 104 matches in the regular season, including all the teams’ matches.
