The new part starts on December 26. After a three-year wait, Netflix is gearing up to release the much-anticipated Season 2 of Squid Game, the most-watched original series of all time.
The surprise success of 2021 on the platform, the South Korean series has generated worldwide enthusiasm and accumulated more than one hundred million hours of viewing in just one month.
The Squid Game features characters deeply in debt who are contacted by a mysterious recruiter. 456 participants are invited to participate in nine events inspired by children’s games, to win 45.6 billion won (about 32 million euros).
But the players on the ground find that the eliminations are done. Thus, the winner will be the sole survivor of the nine games…
New trials await Seongi-hoon
This season 2 will be reunited with Seong Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-jae), the main character of the first season. Winning the previous edition of the Squid Game allowed him to become a rich man.
However, the latter did not want to start a new life, preferring to devote his resources to revenge against the organization responsible for these bloody games.
The Season 2 trailer shows Seong Gi-hoon rebuilding the organization and volunteering to work in a new edition of the Squid Game. Player number 456 seems willing to use his experience to save as many lives as possible. But he did not expect new challenges to appear…
Is there a third season planned?
Several characters from the first season will also return, including police officer Hwang Joon-ho (Wi Ha-joon) and the masked man (Lee Byung-hoon). There will also be some new faces joining the show, and we’ll get a sneak peek at these new cast members in the new season 2 trailer.
The third and final season has already been filmed and will air on Netflix from 2025. Added to this is an American remake project headed by director David Fincher. Spin-offs from the Squid Game universe may also see the light of day on the platform…
