The Brazilian Masters Tennis Championship which took place at the Clube do Império, in Brasilia (DF), ended this Saturday.
Thalita Rodrigues was champion in the over 30 category after winning two matches in the competition against Letícia Tomb and Bianca Grossi. Thalita was born without her left forearm due to rubella contracted by her mother during pregnancy and despite her disability she stood out, losing only one match in the open tournament. This was his first national and also international Masters tournament as the competition counted MT 400 points for the International Tennis Federation ranking.
Thalita has a history in tennis. He has not victimized himself and has been practicing this sport since he was eight years old: “This condition, which could have been an obstacle, has never managed to erase my passion for life and sport”, he says: “Recently I had the opportunity to participate in my first tennis tournament at the age of 30. Playing alongside women my age was an incredible experience, full of emotion and camaraderie. Winning the title was more than just competing in tournaments Masters. Also, play at Clube do Império is something that inspires me deeply. The impeccable facility and high-quality tennis courts offer me the perfect environment to improve my skills, surrounded by people who share the same passion as me, and this makes me want to play always. better. I believe the challenges I have faced in life have only made my determination even stronger and I am excited to continue this journey in this sport.”
Thalita competes in the Para Standing Tennis category, which is standing tennis for athletes with disabilities. In January he will compete in the world championship of the category in Australia and will demonstrate at the traditional Australian Open, one of the four largest professional tournaments in the world.
The Brazilian Masters championship ended on Saturday. In the younger categories, Eduardo Fialho won the title at 35, João Ribeiro won the cup at 30, Rodrigo Paul won at 40 and Antonio Amaro, from Brasilia (DF), won the cup at 45.
Amadeu Façanha, director of the event, evaluated the tournament positively: “It exceeded all expectations, it is not only my vision, but also that of the participants, the organization and the referee. Initially the Brazilian championship was planned to take place took place at Sogipa in Porto Alegre, but due to the floods of the first semester, they ended up rejecting the event, giving priority to the resolution of the problems caused. Faced with this situation, Fenaset offered to the Army Club and the Federation Brazilian Tennis team organized the event and the two immediately accepted and we started working to welcome the best Brazilian athletes. I am very happy with the results, they were beautiful matches, we also won the Brazilian Team Championship with an absolute success “atmosphere that we only see in the Davis Cup and then the singles and doubles tournaments ended with great satisfaction”, declared Amadeu Façanha, organizer of the event.
The tournament has been approved by the International Tennis Federation and the Brazilian Tennis Confederation.
