The rookie interim coach held a press conference after Vasco’s draw against Atlético-GO, already relegated 2-2, in São Januário
Vasco continues to not convince on the pitch and is in their fifth match without a win. This time, on Saturday (30th), in São Januário, they drew 2-2 against the already relegated Atlético-GO for the 36th round of the Brasileirão. The duel marked the debut of idol Felipe Maestro as interim coach. The new commander evaluated the match.
“Chasing the score is very bad. Atlético-GO plays without any responsibility, they have already fallen in Serie B. We created some chances, but after conceding a goal, chasing is actually very tiring and the players start to lack confidence. But the improvement in the second half is valid and we hope that the second half will also improve”, commented the coach.
Cruzmaltino fans sold out tickets for the duel, but were once again disappointed, complete with boos. Now the fight is for the South American championship. Despite the draw, the team went behind in search of a double and the coach spoke about the team’s performance.
“The team started well, the first ten minutes were more organised. But after conceding the goal we started to become disorganised. After conceding the goal it was very bad. We made a substitution at half-time which in the end improved a lot, with the entry of Alex and Payet”, analyzed Felipe.
Vasco’s next matches
To close the season, Vasco still has two games left. The first against Atlético-MG next Wednesday (4), at 7pm (Brasilia time), in São Januário. Then they will face Cuiabá on Sunday (8), at 4pm, at the Arena Pantanal. Felipe thus responded to how he expects the team to face the next challenges.
“We expect an organized team, which works the ball well and tries to exploit the edge of the pitch to have more presence in the area. We are working in this direction to create even more opportunities,” he revealed.
