Angelina Jolie is in the spotlight for his performance as Maria Callas in the film Mariadirected by Pablo Larraín. The film, which explores the last years of the legendary opera singer’s life in Paris before her death in 1977, features Jolie in the lead role. Although known for her versatility as an actress, director and producer, Jolie faced the challenge of singing for the first time to bring Callas to life.

“She had never sung before and started from scratch,” explained Vetro in an interview with People. The trainer highlighted the actress’ remarkable progress: “I’ve never seen anyone make such a big difference from the first to the last day of training.”

Vetro remembers that Jolie felt “a little nervous and shy about singing at first”, but the actress demonstrated determination to master the role. The vocal coach commented on the challenge of teaching someone to sing opera, a style that requires a lot of musical sensitivity: “Opera does not follow a constant rhythm. You have to be very musical to capture the ebbs and flows.”

Her desire to do a great job overrode anything that could have stopped her.

A memorable moment during training was when Jolie sang the aria My dear Babbinoby composer Giacomo Puccini.

It was the most emotional day of all the time we spent together. I was like, ‘That’s it. She can do it. She is the perfect person to play this role.’ And I’m someone who loves Maria Callas — I really do. She was one of my favorite opera singers, so it really touched me that she [Angelina Jolie] was able to do it like that.

Jolie has proven her versatility throughout her career, moving between dramatic roles, action films and original projects as a director. According to Vetro, his dedication to the role of Callas is yet another example of his ability to overcome challenges: “She inspired me to always give 150% because that’s what she does.”

In addition to Jolie’s performance, Maria also stands out for being directed by Pablo Larraín, known for impactful biographies such as Jackie and Spencer. The film will arrive on Netflix on December 11th.
