‘I thought I had sinned too much after three years with Vani’, says Fernanda Torres

The actress played Vani in the Brazilian comedy series ‘Os Normais’ long before starring in ‘Still I’m Here’, by Walter Salles

Fernanda Torres reflected on his role in I’m Still Herefilm directed by Walter Sallesin exclusive content published by the production company VideoFilmes.

In the video, the actress recalled her conversation with the producer Daniela Thomas. “One day, the walter call me and say: ‘VWe wanted to have a coffee, I wanted to talk’. I thought he was going to ask me to write something, because I also found that the more to the walter,I had already sinned too muchafter three years of Vani, five years of Slaps & Kisses, that my career as an actress, in a film by walter,She was already buried, understand?“.

The actress acted as Vani in The Normals (2001-2003) in the early 2000s and lived in Fátima Slaps & Kisses (2011-2015). She continued: “And then the walter call me, and this close to the recovered copy of Foreign Landwhich I went to see at the cinema. And when I left, I hugged him, so emotional, because the Earth founded us.”

Salles and Thomas directed the 1995 film starring Torres. Foreign Land was restored and displayed in São Paulo International Film Festival in 2021.

Node Foreign Landthe walter discovered how he liked to film. And I gave him that emotional hug walterand shortly after, in two weeks, he calls me to sort of recover that person I was back then.

Before interpreting Eunice Paiva in I’m Still Here, Torres been in films like The Invisible Woman (2009), Basic Sanitation, the Movie (2007) and Sand House (2005), directed by her husband himself, Andrucha Waddington: “The last film I had made like thishad been the Sand Housefrom 2006, I don’t know, almost 20 years ago, andI didn’t work with sensitive cinema material.”

“Then I read it, a very sensitive script, with scenes that you don’t usually find in a script, and which still formed a bridge to Brazil today. It was a pretty deep experience, you know? For a long time, for how long it tookand how difficult it was”, he continued.

Torres also mentioned the mother, Fernanda Montenegrowhich interprets Eunice in his last years of life: “And Plus, along with that, there’s my mother’s business, which is: me and mom, every now and then,We do some things together, you know? And they are usually special things. It’s strange, pretty strange.”

And this film, I feel like it’s a film about my maturity, you know? As an actress, like that. And I hope we were worthy of it, you know? From this woman’s story. That we didn’t betray her, you know? With cheap melodrama.
