The captain is one of last year’s veterans
Having won his second title in the space of a week, Marlon Freitas gave an interview after helping Botafogo win the Brasileirão 2024. The captain made an emotional statement about the achievement and his time at the club.
– I’m a little excited, because the end of last year was very difficult, you know? I don’t like to remember it, because it’s something very personal. I carried a scar with me for 12 months from what happened last year. But people can’t write off the year I had until the last five, eight rounds. And they didn’t cancel it, because I did so many good things. I also take responsibility for the decline in revenues and performance – said Marlon in an interview with the “SporTV” channel.
– Man, I thought I was very strong, but after what happened and this year… it’s not because of the results achieved, but because of the courage, the strength. Only my family knows what I went through. Winning this title, the Libertadores, is a magical year. After everything that happened, God is so amazing that I became the captain of the team. I think it had to go like this, I was prepared for it. I was prepared for this group. I want to say a big thank you to my family, to this group, who deserve a lot and work hard every day – added the captain.
The number 17 has been voted one of the best midfielders in the Brasileirão. He said that this is the result of the work and that he will share this award with the rest of the group.
– I knew that collectively the team would do well, individually many good things would happen. I am very happy, I will share this award with my group and my family – he said.
Botafogo beat Sao Paulo 2-1 and won the Brasileirão again after 29 years. Alvinegro’s season is not over yet and Artur Jorge’s team will compete in the Intercontinental Cup. Next Wednesday Glorioso will face Pachuca, in Qatar.
