The United States announces a billion-dollar loan to Ukraine backed by Russian assets

The sending of the amount was confirmed at the end of Joe Biden’s term

The United States announced on Tuesday (10) a loan of 20 billion dollars to Ukraine.

The amount sent to Kiev was secured by interest generated from frozen Russian assets and is part of the G7 commitment to support the country worth $50 billion.

According to Washington Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the amount “will provide Ukraine with a critical infusion of support as it defends its country from a war of unprovoked aggression.”

The 78-year-old economist added that the loan will allow Ukrainians “to have the resources they need to maintain emergency services, hospitals and other essential assets” during the fight against the Russian invasion.

The American part of the loan was paid to a World Bank fund, which will handle the distribution of the amounts.

The US government’s announcement came shortly before President Joe Biden left the White House for the return of Republican Donald Trump. .
