Mom, I Missed the Plane: Pause at 42 minutes and 28 seconds and look to Kevin’s right

Like the presents piled under the tree on Christmas Day, the hidden details pile up in Mom, I Missed the Plane, Chris Columbus’ unspeakable comedy that we love to watch at the end of every year and which is broadcast tonight on TF1.

In this film, where young Kevin McAllister is unfortunately forgotten by his parents and where he must spend his holidays at home, viewers who want to recognize little clues and winks would do well to stay tuned. Because there is a lot to do!

A whole bunch of eyes

We can, for example, cite a direct reference to It’s a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street, a great Christmas classic that the McAllister family revisits throughout the film, or a very careful shot where Kevin’s father accidentally shoots his son’s plane. A ticket in the trash that helps explain the sequence of events.

But let’s focus today on another wink that comes in at 42 minutes and 28 seconds into the featurette. The scene takes place in the middle of the movie when Kevin, after going shopping, is almost run over by Harry and Marvin’s van on his way home. As he pulls away from the two robbers, notice the lettering painted on the body of their car to the right of the screen.

“oh-kay”

It’s certainly no coincidence that these few letters appear next to Joe Pesci’s face! Indeed, as fans of Lethal Weapon will surely not notice, the American actor was already giving a great performance in the second part of the action saga, a year before the release of Maman, I Missed the Plane.

His funny character was both endearing and insufferable to Riggs and Murtaugh, and viewers especially remembered him for his famous and angry temper. “Okay? Okay? Okay?”

So we can easily assume that this caption – whose typography is reminiscent of the Lethal Weapon title – is a direct reference to his previous film.
