The film starring Adam Pearson and Sebastian Stan is inspired by the British actor and was awarded in Berlin.
Success when it was shown earlier this year Berlin Film Festivalthe long one “A Different Man” will be released in Brazilian cinemas this week. Hero Sebastiano Stan AND Adam Pearsonthe film that earned the Marvel star the Silver Bear for best performance, is a completely fictional story, but inspired by Pearson himself.
The feature film directed by Aaron Schimberg tells the story of Edward Lemuel (Stan), an introverted, paralyzed actor suffering from neurofibromatosis, who undergoes an experimental treatment and has the tumors on his face completely removed. That’s when he meets Oswald (Pearson), who suffers from the same condition but, differently, is a good living lively, comfortable in her own skin and quite seductive.
Gradually, Oswald’s cheerful personality begins to annoy Edward and make him a resentful boy, just when he thought his life would be completely resolved after the surgery. The situation becomes even more complicated when it involves his girlfriend, Ingrid (Renate Reinsve), and the play she wrote about a man with a disfigured face.
Before he had the idea for the film, Schimberg worked with Pearson “Chained for Life” (2018). In the film, an actress has trouble connecting with her co-star on the set of an independent film, played by Adam. After this collaboration, the director wanted to develop a project that faithfully reflected the actor’s personality.
Who is Adam Pearson?
Adam is a 39-year-old British actor with neurofibromatosis type 1, a genetic disease that affects the skin, eyes, bones and nervous system. In his case the pathology generates the production of various tumors, all benign, on the face (in his twin brother the same pathology causes the loss of recent memory).
Diagnosed at age 5, he has already undergone 39 facial surgeries and is used to strange looks from strangers on the street. His first film role was in “Under the Skin” (2013), science fiction film directed by Jonathan Glazer (“Area of interest”) and interpreted Scarlett Johansson.
In an interview with the magazine VultureAaron told how he developed the idea for his new film.
“I think audiences just concluded that Adam was playing himself in ‘Chained for Life.’ [O personagem] He was a little nervous and shy and people thought he was like that too. But the character was really inspired by me.”
