The director of the new version of Nosferatu, Robert Eggersthanked SpongeBob for introducing children to the vampire universe created at the beginning of the 20th century.

During the film’s premiere in Los Angeles last Thursday, the 12th, the filmmaker was asked by The Hollywood Reporter whether he knew about the character’s history in Nickelodeon animation.

There was a series called Muppet Babies When I was a child I used to watch parts of the Phantom of the Opera of Lon Chaney and older versions of Cyrano de Bergerac and things like that. This strange cartoon introduced me to many films that I watched when I was a little older with various memories of Muppet Babies. So thank you, SpongeBob. – Robert Eggers

Nicholas Houltwho plays Thomas Hutter, also commented on the matter in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I have to go back and watch more SpongeBob“, he joked. “I like that this is a form of introduction and, hopefully, it’s a reintroduction in a different way.”
