Abilio Brunini is accused of making homophobic comments during the CPMI
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) has reported federal deputy Abilio Brunini (PL-MT) to the Federal Court (STF) for insulting federal deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-RJ).
The complaint concerns an episode in which Brunini was accused of homophobia during a session of the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) on the coup, in July last year.
The accusation was filed in the Supreme Court on December 10 and will be reported by minister Cármen Lúcia, who has set a preliminary hearing to address the matter.
The case began after Senator Rogério Carvalho (PT-SE) stated that Brunini had made transphobic comments against the congresswoman, who is a trans woman. “He made a homophobic speech while his partner was demonstrating, accusing her of offering services. This is homophobia and lack of respect”, said the senator, during the CPMI.
Following the coverage of the case in the press, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Federal District sent a complaint against the deputy to the PGR, a body that operates at the Supreme Court.
Agência Brasil has contacted the Abilio Brunini office and is awaiting a response. The space is open to the event. At the time, the deputy denied promoting homophobic speech against Erika Hilton.
